- Definition
- Measures annualized compound growth between a starting value and an ending value. It converts a multi-year cumulative change into an equivalent annual rate.
- Calculation
- (current_value / historical_value)^(1 / years) - 1
- Persisted Unit
- Stored in percentage scale: 8.5 means 8.5%, not 0.085. The formula is multiplied by 100 before persistence.
- When To Use It
- Appropriate for revenue, earnings, FCF, EPS or debt when the base and ending value are comparable and positive. It is not appropriate when the historical value is negative, zero or crosses sign; use NormalizedChangePct for those cases.
- Difference vs ChangePct, Delta and NormalizedChangePct
- CAGR annualizes and compounds. ChangePct measures changes in percentage metrics. Delta measures absolute differences in ratios or multiples. NormalizedChangePct measures cumulative change in absolute values using ABS(historical value) as denominator.
