- Definition
- Measures the absolute difference between two ratios or multiples. It is not a percentage and it is not divided by the historical value.
- Calculation
- current_ratio - historical_ratio
- Persisted Unit
- Stored in the same unit as the ratio or multiple. For example, if net debt / EBITDA moves from 3.0x to 2.5x, Delta is -0.5.
- When To Use It
- Appropriate for liquidity, leverage, coverage, efficiency ratios or multiples where the absolute movement of the ratio matters. It is especially clear when the ratio is not percentage-based.
- Difference vs CAGR, ChangePct and NormalizedChangePct
- Delta subtracts ratios or multiples without converting them to percentage. CAGR measures annualized compound growth. ChangePct subtracts percentages. NormalizedChangePct measures changes in absolute values against ABS(historical value).
